Aside from the usual stuffed toys that you bring along during your trip, what would be the other sources of entertainment for your kid? Just like everyone else, most children are also captivated by the pleasant sound of music. When on the road, you could either have your little one's favorite CD on nursery rhymes play on the background. If your car is equipped with an audio-video system, you can load videos of Barney singing until you can't shake the lyrics off your head.
With today's technology, the iPad (also the iPhone and iPod) has become a multi-function gadget for everyone in the family. Aside from browsing my emails and the net, I interact with my 5-month old baby with the aid of some apps. Together with the baby flashcards app I previously wrote about, I found another baby-friendly app which can calm down your little ones anytime, anywhere.
Nursery rhymes collection arranged alphabetically
Although KYK's Kids Song All - 220 Songs is not my personal choice for the ultimate kids nursery rhyme jukebox, this app can certainly keep restless tots sitting still for several minutes or probably even hours. Referring to its name, it has 220 songs of familiar nursery rhymes coupled with bright graphics both adults and kids would love to stare at. Not only would this run on the iPad but also on the iPhone and iPod Touch as well. Just make sure your device is on iOS 4.0 or later.
The "A" Playlist
Though this app really has a great entertainment factor, there are some aspects I wish that the developer could improve on. First, some of lyrics are not accurate. Instead of learning nursery rhymes correctly, your kid might sing them in an outrageously funny way. Second, there are some misspelled words which should be corrected. Though there is no personal cause for alarm right at the moment, I am just worried that kids who are in the phase of learning to read might get confused. Lastly, there are songs which are the same but have different titles, thus, they are categorized differently and counted twice.
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Just a piece of advice: Have a conscious effort to guide your kid or the nanny when using this app. Make sure you let them know which words are improperly spelled or which lyrics are incorrect. Although, in general, I have to say this is quite a very useful app.
I purchased this app a few months back at $ 4.99 and felt that it was worth the amount that I paid for. I am surprised to see that it's now at only $ 1.99. There is no great opportunity to have this installed in your device other than today.
