Family Bonding through Sickness, Storm, Flood, Brownout and Check-in

It has been our family's practice to celebrate a baby's monthly birthday on his first year. For SI's 4th month celebrated last October 1st, I believe it will become one of the most memorable. Why?

Number one: October 1st was the day after we were discharged from the hospital. SI was confined September 25th due to coughs and colds which was later on diagnosed officially as pneumonia. It was really heartbreaking to see the nurse attaching the IV needle to my daughter not only once but thrice because SI was so fidgety. How JF and I wished that if only it's possible, we would rather be the ones to endure all the pain instead of our little angel. Without thinking twice. Without hesitation.

It was also that week of September 25th that Tropical Storm Pedring devastated a huge portion of Northern Luzon including Metro Manila. Being in the hospital was blessing in disguise for us. If we stayed home, we would be trapped just like everyone else in Malabon. What if her condition got worse and we need to bring her to the hospital? What if all roads were closed due to floods? We were thankful we got to the hospital 2 days before Pedring arrived.

So on September 30th, after days of medication, SI was allowed to go home. However, we realized that MERALCO still hasn't restored power in our area. That was another problem we didn't anticipate. As a go-home instruction, SI had to be nebulized every 6 hours which meant that we need electricity! In short, we had to find a comfy evacuation center not only for SI but also for SJ.

Now comes the second reason why SI's 4th month is special. Instead of going home, we checked in at UP Diliman's University Hotel. Aside from the need of electricity, it was SI's monthly birthday anyway! This was my baby's first ever hotel experience in the hotel where we had our pre-wedding preps.

When we checked-in for our wedding, we had the rooms located at the 2nd floor. It was a satisfying stay which made us assume that checking-in for the second time will not turn out to be a disappointment. True enough, we had a blast during our stay early this month. We were even surprised with how our room looked. The floor was shiny. The white sheets smelled clean. The tiles in the bathroom seemed like they were newly installed. In general, the room smelled and looked brand new!

Below are some snapshots of the hotel's ground floor room. Please excuse some pictures showing clutter. You must have seen on TV, that's how a typical evacuation area looks like :)

The hotel-crazy, SJ

Aside from the great accommodation and JF's strong attachment to his alma mater, I would definitely consider going back to this hotel because of the quiet and serene environment the UP Campus has to offer. I would also like to try out the services offered by Mont Albo Massage Hut. Too bad, when SJ and I went in at 9pm and there was no available masseuse for us.

Lastly, I consider SI's 4th month memorable because I'd like to think that this whole hotel check-in experience is a dry-run for a real out-of-town trip with my girls. The 3D/2N we spent at the University Hotel is something I'd like to do again and again. Surely, it takes a lot of effort to bring all the kids stuff along but in return, it will surely be a lot of bonding fun.
